Day 50 of my ski season

Today’s view from Little Whiteface.

Today was Day 50 of my ski season and it was a great Thursday at Whiteface. I skied with Wild Bill and he said it was his best day of the season. I won’t make such a declaration for myself, but it was still great nonetheless.

Yesterday, I opened my post by talking about how I left something in Whiteface’s base lodge at the end of the day and I was hoping it would turn up at lost-and-found. It did not turn up at lost-and-found and that’s because it was in my bag the entire time. What I thought was lost was my GoPro. I checked my bag at least five times last night looking for it and it was nowhere to be found. However, when I got to Whiteface today and pulled my bag out, the GoPro fell out from an awkward spot. I don’t know how it go there, but it was in a place I seemingly couldn’t see. The good news is that my GoPro has made it home safe and sound, where it actually was all along.

My Go Pro.

The view this afternoon from the top of Paron’s Run.

All of the lifts that normally spin at Whiteface were spinning today, even the Little Whiteface Double, which has been closed all week. They had 59 runs open. That number will increase tomorrow as Skyward comes online for the season, just in time for the holiday weekend. Upper Thruway and Draper’s Drop were closed for racing.

The top of Mountain Run.

I didn’t ski Lookout Mountain today, so I’m unsure of the state of the Willmington Trail, but everything else was great. There was packed powder everywhere. My favorite run today was probably Mountain Run. It may have been in the best condition I’ve seen it this season. The snow was nice and there was a ridge right down the center that you could hop over repeatedly for the entire length of the run. We skied off the Summit once and Paron’s Run was good as well, but not nearly as good as Mountain Run.

Whales on Lower Skyward.

Victoria.

Snowmaking continued today on Skyward and Niagara. There were a few guns running on Victoria and there are a couple of whales on the trail. They were also making snow on Lower Valley, Boreen and probably another spot or two on the mountain. Wild Bill and I avoided every run with snowmaking except Victoria. We just didn’t feel like dealing with it.

Blazer’s Bluff.

Lastly, snow from the snow guns and the natural stuff has been blowing down into Blazer’s Bluff and it looks really good. I think this trail, which honestly is rarely open, may be open soon. We will just have to wait and see.
