LAPPING THE T-BAR AT BEARTOWN SKI AREA

With it being MLK weekend, I’m blacked out on my Ikon Base Pass, as well as my Whiteface pass. While I’m not blacked out at Jay Peak on my season pass or at Smuggler’s Notch on my Bash Badge, I decided to take today to visit Beartown Ski Area for the first time in about two weeks. I’ve written about this small ski area before, so I won’t go into detail as much about what makes it unique, but if you’re interested in that you can read one of my older posts here.

For those not familiar with this 150 ft. vertical ski area, it’s located in northern New York, just outside of Plattsburgh. Beartown has two surface lifts: a T-Bar and a Poma. Both were spinning today. They have four runs total and two of them were open: Main slope and North Slope.

There was a decent crowd on the hill, but with both lifts spinning there was never really a line. The ride up both of the lifts is around 90 seconds to a minute and 45 seconds, so you can get a lot of laps in quickly. Coverage on both open trails was excellent and the snow was fantastic. Temperatures were slightly above freezing so it was nice and soft and you could just carve right through it.

I’m still not sure where I’ll ski tomorrow, Jay Peak and Smuggler’s Notch are definitely options, but I kind of want to visit somewhere new. We shall see.
