MID-NOVEMBER SKIING AT WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN

Dare I say today was the best day of the ski season? Okay, SO FAR. I’ve only got 4 days under my belt here, people! I was once again back at Whiteface skiing the same terrain I skied on day 2 and day 3, but it skied much better today and that’s notable.

I took my time getting to the mountain today. It’s Sunday and I've skied all weekend since Friday, so why not sit down and enjoy some morning coffee? There was no reason to rush and I didn't. I love having a few cups of coffee before going skiing. It just hits different.

I was on the snow around 12:30 p.m. The sun was out, it wasn’t too cold and it wasn’t too busy. I think it was slightly warmer, because the snow was definetly softer in the shade than the last two days. We were once again uploading via the Face Lift and skiing off the Summit Quad on Paron’s Run and Lower Northway. At the end of the day we had to download via the Face Lift. There’s no snow below the Face Lift’s top terminal.

Conditions were great. The snow up high on Paron’s Run was soft, but not as bumped up as recent days and there was less bare rock hidden under the snow — not that there was a lot to worry about before, but there were a few spots you needed to be careful. Coverage remains good on Paron’s Run, but it’s not edge-to-edge yet for the entire trail. There is one choke point near where Paron’s Run and The Follies meet. Lower Northway is mostly in the shade in the afternoon and, because of that, the last two days, it’s been extremely firm, but not today. You could actually hold and edge on it! Great stuff. It skied like the blue-cruiser it truly is.

This weekend of skiing at Whiteface has been great and I’m thankful that they opened with uploading and downloading via Face Lift. They’re closed tomorrow, Nov. 18 and don’t re-open until Friday, Nov. 22. I’m not sure if I’ll ski during this week or not. If I do, it will be at Sommet Saint Sauvuer just outside of Montreal. Stay tuned!
