THE FINAL DAY OF THE SKI SEASON AT BOLTON VALLEY

I’d hoped to make it to Bolton Valley much earlier in the season, but I was injured February 2 and that ruined all my plans for the ski season. It took me more than six weeks to recover from that injury and, in late March, I started skiing again. Since then, I’ve been telling myself I needed to head to Bolton Valley. Today, I finally made it there on their final day of the 2024-2025 ski season.

Vista Glade.

It’s April 13, which typically means any open ski areas in the East are down to just groomers, but that wasn’t the case today at Bolton Valley thanks to an epic winter in northern Vermont. The mountain has picked up 375 inches on the season, which is significantly more than their already impressive average snowfall of 312 inches. Thanks to all that snow, there was still a pretty good base up high, which allowed for trees to be in play.

Devil’s Playground.

With it being closing day, they were only spinning the Vista Lift and the Mighty Mite rope tow. There were 31 runs open. The mountain wasn’t too busy, though there was periodically a short 2-minute wait at the Vista Quad.

It snowed yesterday and, today, the temperature was a little above freezing, which means there was some sticky snow out on the mountain. It wasn’t the kind of sticky snow that’ll bring you down, but you couldn’t trust it either. The sticky stuff wasn’t everywhere, but there was enough to be mindful of it.

Vermont 200.

Deer Path.

Aside from that, conditions were pretty good for April 13. Some of the trails, especially down low, had some bare spots, but you could navigate around them. In the trees that were open, the bare spots were non-existent or smaller and not much of a concern at all, at least not to me.

Cobrass.

Prior to today, I’d only been to Bolton Valley twice and I’d never been in or on some the trails I skied today, such as Devil’s Playground, Cobrass and Enchanted Forest. They either weren’t open at the time I was there before or I just never made it to them, so it was fun getting to ski some new-to-me terrain, especially on April 13! My favorite run at Bolton Valley is probably Vista Glade. While there was no view, which is great when visibility is good, I thought it had the best snow on the mountain today. Coverage was mostly pretty good and the snow wasn’t sticky at all.

Never Quit Skiing,

Lincoln
