LATE APRIL DAY IN THE GLADES AT JAY PEAK
Hell’s Woods. Who needs a tee time when you can have tree time?
It may be April 23, but glades were still in play today at Jay Peak. Well, only two glades were open by the time I got there, but I’m not complaining! Being able to ski trees in late April is awesome.

Today marked a return to normal for me. For basically the last month, I’ve had work going on at my house in the living room. I won’t get in to the details of that, but just know it was more of a major repair then a renovation. The contractors wrapped up last week and I wrapped up painting last night. I say today was a return to normal because it was the first time I could really get out and ski during the week since March. I did manage to squeeze a day in at Stowe last Thursday, but aside from that I was at home in case the contractors needed me or I was painting. Needless to say, I’m glad to finally have all of that behind me.

Anyways, I headed up to the mountain in the afternoon after work. I got there around 1:45 and I skied until a little after 4. I don’t know how many trails Jay had open exactly, but they were spinning all but the Flyer. Despite that, I never made it over to Tramside because the two open glades, Kitz Woods and Hell’s Woods, are on Stateside and I spent my time lapping those trees.

Lots of on The Jet still, which is great news for May skiing.

It was a beautiful afternoon. There were a couple of clouds in the sky, but it was sunny at times and mild. Coverage is quickly dwindling around the mountain, but there was still a decent amount of snow on the trails that were open. You could find a bare spot here and there, but it was navigable. The Jet Triple is where Jay Peak’s May efforts are focused and that part of the ski areas looks to be in good shape.

As I mentioned, I spent my time lapping Kitz Woods and Hell’s Woods. I only skied other runs to access those and get back to the lifts. The snow was soft everywhere, but outside of the woods it was mashed potatoes. In the woods, the snow was very forgiving, which made for great skiing. Coverage was really good in Kitz Woods and decent in Hell’s woods. I never worried about rocks or anything in either, but Hell’s Woods is definitely nearing the end, while Kitz Woods may have some lift left in it.
